Noble steed
I love how this picture turned out. It may not be conventional in its composition - it has a ton of negative space in comparison to the subject - but the colors, the blurred background, the leading lines from the top right of the shot down to the horse’s nose as well as the side light all work together to get the viewer focusing on the main point of the photo. The flared nostrils and the confidence and nobility this horse is exuding.
Sometimes it’s the unexpected that works the most as it causes us to stop, think and actually take in what we’re seeing. All too often, if we’re not surprised by something, we don’t actually register what’s in front of us. This can be a great technique in photography as it’s asking the viewer to engage. It won’t appeal to everyone, but it will to some and chances are it will be remembered.
