Horse play
The 78 or so horses on Assateague Island split themselves up into small bands consisting typically of a few mares, their foals and led by one stallion. This particular group actually has a second junior stallion, pictured above, as well as an additional outlier mare trying to attach herself to the band. The stallion was pretty fed up with the pinto mare edging her way closer and closer to the others, so finally took matters into his own hooves and began to chase her away.
By the time I took this shot at the end of the chase it seems he’d moved on somewhat from his original intention, but regardless I certainly had a front row seat as the drama unfolded!
