Catching the last rays of summer
Since moving to America, few things say summer more to me than seeing kids chomping on slices of watermelon bigger than their heads. The more juice dripping down their chins the better. I love the light in this shot and the almost neon glow it gives to the watermelon. Golden hour (the time just before sunset, or just after sunrise) is one of my favorite times to photograph. The angle of the light and shadows it creates gives a really attractive richness and warmth to the photos.
When there’s a pocket of light to take advantage of like there was here, I’ll coax my subject into it, but after that they’re on their own. Then it’s just a matter of waiting for the right moment to happen and catching the shot.
