The Camargue is home to an ancient breed of horse indigenous to this area in the south of France and believed to be descended from prehistoric horses. The Camargue horses run relatively freely under the stewardship of Les Gardians, the Camargue cowboys, who use them for livestock management and to guard the wild, black bulls used in local bullfights. They’re of course a huge tourist attraction too.
This shot was taken on the beautiful white sand dunes of a private beach just after sunrise. I was the only photographer other than my guide and we had front row seats to one of the most spectacular performances I’ve seen. The stallion showed us his finest rears one after the other and I was lucky enough to catch this shot with his legs and tail perfectly placed.
All Camargue prints are part of a limited edition series and will be signed and numbered.
Prints are available in various sizes on fine art paper, as acrylic glass prints as well as on aluminum. Framing is also available.
