I became a bit obsessed with panning when I was photographing the beautiful horses of the Camargue. This shot is one of my favourites as the legs of the three horses are moving in perfect unity. There is a real sense of movement from the angles of their joints and the way the tail in the foreground wraps beautifully around the leg. If I had set out to get this exact composition, I wouldn’t have come even close to this. That’s where the fun and excitement in photographing horses is for me. You can never go out on location with a specific image in mind. You can only observe, anticipate what might come and try to get yourself into a position where you might be able to capture something special.
