There was once chance to get this shot. As soon as the horses started walking out into the water, the mirror-like calmness of the surface would be broken. I wanted the image to capture the clearest reflection of the herd as possible. I had to walk round the edge of the marsh (through swarms of mosquitoes) and very carefully wade out into position. There had to be enough time for the water to still itself again before the horses started walking.

With the sun just having risen and some beautiful clouds in the sky, there was enough color and contrast to really make the reflection work.
